THE
CAMPUS
METU's
11,000 acre main campus is located on the Ankara - Eskiþehir
Highway approximately 7 kilometers west the center of Ankara (Kizilay).
The campus is conveniently served by a variety of buses and minibuses
(dolmus) and is readily accessible by car or taxi. All the Faculties
and Departments are in the same campus area, except for the Graduate
School of Marine Sciences, which is located at Icel-Erdemli on the
southern coast of Turkey.
METU
is proud of its campus. This richly forested area, one of the largest
green areas in the city of Ankara, contains more than 10 million trees
planted since 1961, all by the students, faculty and staff themselves.
This green area is a source of pride to all who have been associated
with METU over the years and reflects the sensitivity and commitment
to environmental conservation that has been a continuing tradition
at METU. At the southern end of the campus is Eymir Lake where students
can enjoy a day outdoors with friends canoeing, fishing or picnicking.
The campus has an emergency health services, shops and services for
basic needs, a pharmacy, banks, places to eat. City buses and minibuses
(Dolmus) to and from the city operate on a regular basis from early
morning until 23:00. Sports facilities include: gymnasiums, tennis
courts, soccer fields, jogging trails and swimming pools. Most facilities
on campus are open to Summer School students free of charge. One exception
is the swimming pool which charges a nominal fee.
